The Fusion Extreme Team hosted their monthly “social” gathering atheir favorite watering hole, The Dubliner in Mizner Park. Keeping with the team’s mission to “Enhance Lives & Change The World”, we decided it would be fitting to choose Soles4souls.org as an additional charity for this months event. We had an amazing turnout and we collected over 40 pairs of shoes for this amazing charity! Instead of throwing away our “gently worn” running kicks, they will now be redirected to people in need. Being a “green guy”, this was not only a great feeling knowing that these shoes would go to people who can’t afford them and truly need them, but it also diverted them from ending up in landfills, where the toxic glue that holds the shoes together can leak into our water supply and atmosphere!
We also received quite a few donations for our primary partner charity, Autism Speaks! We are working our way towards our $60,000 goal! If you would like to help us achieve that goal, please visit our online(and secure) donation page.
We will be hosting our large fundraiser on Saturday June 6th at 2:30pm at The Dubliner. We will have free booze & food along with some killer live music! If you were at last year’s event that we hosted at Gatsby’s, you know that the silent auction items are UNBELIEVABLE. From trips to Atlantis to VIP tables, hotel rooms and limo rides to South Beach’s hottest clubs!
Thanks again for making last night so much fun and tell your friends to come out and join us!
We are very excited to announce the arrival of our newest Fusioneer…
Olivia Hope Brown was born on Tuesday March 24th to Fusion Extreme Team member Keith Brown and his wife. As you can clearly see, she clearly takes after her mother (sorry Keith) and we wish Olivia (and of course Keith’s wife) all of our best to a healthy and happy life. I suppose this means that Hillary and the MDG Advertising Team might have to go back to the drawing board to design some new schwag for these new additions to the team!
Look forward to seeing Keith back in the mix with a fancy new 3-wheeled baby jogger!
“She is absolutely amazing. As soon as things calm down, I’ll be back out for the Saturday runs. I’ll bring her out there as well so she can meet the team.” ~Keith
I had the opportunity to see the documentary “Running The Sahara” last night. It was an expedition consisting of three men who set out to RUN across the 4,00+ miles of the Sahara desert. The film was narrated by Academy Award-winner Matt Damon and directed by Academy Award-winner James Moll. A small film crew tracked the runners across the desert, capturing their incredible journey on camera, recording this landmark moment in athleticism, in humanitarianism, and in history.
The expedition began in November of 2006 with runners Charlie Engle (USA), Ray Zahab(Canada) and Kevin Lin(Taiwan) embarking on what most people called impossible… running across the Sahara Desert. I have to support that casual statement by making sure I mention that the will not stop running to soak up some poolside fun and shop in the markets along the way. They set-out on an estimated 80-day journey across over 4,00o miles and through 6 countries: Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Libya, and Egypt. Just a reference, that’s approximately 165 marathons.
As a VERY recreational runner, this movie was truly inspiring. I would have to say that it is the “Rocky” for runners. The simple thought of what these 3 men had to endure to make this dream a reality seemed to deafen any doubts of whether I can go that extra mile next Saturday. The underlying story (for me) was the background history of these three runners. Although the webiste doesn’t really get into detail http://www.runningthesahara.com/bios.html , what shocked me was that Canadian runner, Ray Zahab had only been running for 2 years prior to this. He was a former party-animal and drug user who “woke-up one day and started to run”. I know it sounds a bit Forrest Gump, but it’s true. I put my sneakers on after watching the movie and set-out for a run despite my “pains” from the previous days run.
I highly suggest this for anyone, whether you run or not. The scenery and wonderful people of the 6 countries they ran through were the supporting cast! There was also a great philanthropic message as well that deals with bringing clean drinking water to these countries. I think you’ll be hearing a lot more about http://www.h2oafrica.org/ from me as the season unfolds!
We are excited to announce that in partnership with Pizza Fusion, we will be starting a local running team (Team Fusion) beginning, Saturday, January 31, 2009. The team will be training for the inaugural Seattle Rock n’ Roll marathon and half marathon, June 27, 2009. It is also open to anyone training for another event or just interested in continuing to run! We will be participating in several local running events over the next several months: (Shamrock 10 Miler, A1A Half Marathon, Gasparilla/Tampa, etc.). This club was formed out of a desire to help people achieve their goals from running their first 5k to training for an Ironman while giving back to the community, the planet and themselves. Some run for fun, some live to race, others are just in it for the health of it.
Our coaches Ashley & Lora, along with our training mentors, have helped hundreds cross the finish line and are committed to your safety and your goals.
Characters are definitely welcome ==
After you’ve toured the site, if you like what you see, come on out and run with us…
The team will meet each Saturday morning, January 31st - June 20, 2009, beginning at 7:00 AM on January 31st. We will meet at the Panera parking lot on Linton and Federal Hwy., but ask that you park in front of Carrabba’s (so we do not interfere with the TNT team near Panera). We will also offer weekday runs Monday and Wednesdays at 6:30 PM.
